What to Do Next

Visit the “Confirm My Eligibility” tab to confirm you are eligible to participate in the study and update your information. Once we confirm your eligibility, a member of our study team will reach out to you to schedule your interview. You’ll be able to schedule the interview at a time that’s convenient to you.

In-Home Interview

Some participants of the National Longitudinal Study of the High School Class of 1972 (NLS-72) will be scientifically selected to participate in an in-home interview. During the in-home interview, an interviewer will come to your home for about three hours. The visit will consist of a survey, a set of thinking and memory exercises, and a variety of health measures. To learn more about the in-home interview, visit our Q&A page.

Phone Interview

Some NLS-72 participants will be scientifically selected to participate in a phone interview. For the phone interview, an interviewer will call you at a pre-scheduled time for about an hour. The interview will consist of a survey, including a set of thinking and memory exercises. You only have to give the information you are comfortable providing. After the Interview

At the end of your interview, you’ll be asked if you’d like to participate in some additional follow-up health measures like providing a blood sample or participating in an MRI scan, scheduled at a later date convenient to you.

The MRI scan will take place at Columbia University in New York, Rush University in Chicago, Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, or the University of California at Los Angeles. You will be notified after the interview if you are eligible to partake in this additional project activity (if you live near one of the sites). You will receive additional compensation if you participate in an MRI scan.

If you agree to participate in the home health visit, a trained health worker from ExamOne, a partner of the NLS-72 researchers, will visit your home to draw blood and complete some additional physical measures, such as blood pressure. You will receive additional compensation if you participate in the home health visit with ExamOne.

What You’ll Receive

Not only will you receive financial compensation to thank you for your time, but you will also get to learn about your own health. If you complete an in-home interview, you will receive a free health report with the results from the parts of the visit that you complete. If you participate in the home health visit and choose to donate a blood sample, you will receive personalized results from blood tests, including a complete blood count and your cholesterol levels. If you complete an MRI scan, a board-certified neuroradiologist will review your images for anything that could be important to your health. The MRI Centers can share those reviews with you and your doctor if requested.
